Redundancy is a challenging experience, whether it’s your first time or you’ve been through it before. It’s a period of uncertainty that can make you feel as though your world has been turned upside down.
Businesses and their people are facing tough times. Difficult decisions are being made, and redundancies are on the rise. Our recruitment partners identified a timely opportunity to give back to the business community by sharing job search knowledge and support with those impacted by restructuring and redundancy.
Exactly one week ago, Everest People facilitated our first “Bounce Back Stronger” event. An event like this can be daunting; you need support, but stepping forward isn’t easy. However, we observed a sense of relief among the group. Knowing that everyone was in the same situation brought comfort and a reassuring feeling of not being alone.
To open up conversation, the group introduced themselves and shared their backgrounds and skillsets. It was refreshing to witness such a diverse array of experiences in one room. The talent among the attendees was truly remarkable.
A crucial part of the evening was addressing the negative stigma associated with redundancy. Many attendees expressed concerns about disclosing their roles being disestablished on their CVs or in interviews. Our recruitment partner team; Sharon, Helen, and I challenged this notion. While redundancy can feel deeply personal, it’s essential to remember that it’s about the role, not the individual.
It was enlightening to hear about the participants’ experiences with past recruitment processes. Unfortunately, some employers are not following due process, lacking proactive communication with candidates. Despite the competitive job market, hiring managers and recruiters should prioritise timely updates for applicants. If you need guidance on this as an employer, please reach out. Everest People have extensive experience in effective communication and can offer insights into best practices moving forward.
We delved into CV development tips, interview strategies, job search techniques, and aligning with a company’s culture and values. I’m pleased to say that the attendees are now well-prepared and enthusiastic professionals ready to take on new challenges and I am confident that the right opportunities will find them. Employers, brace yourselves – you’ll have a tough decision ahead in choosing just one candidate!
The session concluded on a positive note, with participants eager to apply their learnings. The event’s name, Bounce Back Stronger, encapsulated the essence of the evening, adopting a positive mindset can open doors to new and exciting opportunities that you might not have considered before.
To everyone who attended, thank you for being such wonderful and resilient individuals, I wish you every success in your endeavours. Employers, if you require support with your recruitment processes, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We understand the abundance of talent available and are here to assist you.
